10 Actors You Won't Believe Were Last Minute Replacements For Iconic Roles

1. Margaret Hamilton - The Wicked Witch Of The West (The Wizard Of Oz)

MV5BMTM3MDk2MTk3OV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzg4NTkxNA@@._V1._SX640_SY467_ The problem with Margaret Hamilton is, unless you refer to her as the "Wicked Witch of the West," nobody knows who the hell you're talking about. Call the the poor woman by the name of her most famous character, though, and not a single person in the room is doubting who she is. Hamilton seems like she was born to play the iconic green monster who tries to steal Dorothy's rubber slippers for much of musical classic The Wizard Of Oz - in fact, she stepped in to fill the role just three days before filming started after actress Gale Sodergaard quit because she didn't want to play a "hag." Did she even read the script before signing on? As far as last minute replacements go, though, Hamilton is the Queen of Second Choices. Not only did she seem fully primed to play a witch (complete with cackle and everything)), she looked pretty natural under all the witchy make-up. Not to say you aren't attractive, Margaret... you're very, uh.. beautiful... ah, who cares? Hideous woman, but man was she great in this. Like this article?
