The leading Bond Girl in Sean Connery’s second film as Double-0 Seven, From Russia With Love (1963), Italian actress, Daniela Bianchi portrayed Corporal Tatiana Romanova who is unwittingly at the centre of a SPECTRE plot to humiliate and kill Bond.

Although she had been acting since 1958 at the time of her appearance in the second official Bond film, she was sadly hampered by her thick Italian accent. Bianchi was therefore voice dubbed by Barbara Jefford, who later provided the voices for Molly Peters in Thunderball (1965) and Caroline Munro in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).

After her appearance in From Russia With Love, she appeared in several French and Italian film productions, as well as the negatively-received European spy comedy, O.K. Connery (a.k.a Operation Kid Brother) (1967). The movie starred Sean Connery’s younger brother, Neil and co-starred Bond alumni Bernard Lee, Lois Maxwell, Adolfo Celi and Anthony Dawson.

Daniela retired from acting in 1970 and married Italian shipping magnate, Alberto Cameli. Nevertheless, she has continued to contribute to retrospectives on her experience with James Bond.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
