10 All-Star Cast Whodunnits To Watch Before Knives Out

1. And Then There Were None (1945)

A Shot In The Dark Peter Sellars
20th Century Fox

Of all the movies on the list, this is the one that might seem like the least starry affair. But the original novel pretty much sets the rules that are used to this day in the whodunnit genre.

The basic rules of a bunch of people trapped in a single place and one by one, each person dying has been oft-imitated by countless movies in a variety of settings in all shapes and sizes, including its subsequent remakes. Now it might not be the first book/movie to use the premise, but it is the one that is used as a point of reference in the whodunnit genre.

The movie itself is an adaptation of the stage play based on the book. Understandably so, given that its bleak ending was changed for the stageplay into a more optimistic one. Though it might not be considered the most iconic in the genre, it is still a much watch as there is much to enjoy in it as a murder mystery.
