3. Fatal Attraction - Suicide Frame-Up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY_NQK7rJrY Here's an alternate ending that is miles better than the admittedly still decent ending we got anyway. In the theatrical ending of Fatal Attraction, bunny boiler Alex ends up being shot by Beth, but this ending was itself actually a reshoot, after the original, far bleaker ending didn't fare well with test audiences (silly test audiences). Originally, Alex ends up committing suicide by slashing her throat, doing so in such a way that implies Michael Douglas' Dan was the perpetrator. Though a tape recording that Beth finds could potentially exonerate Dan, it still puts him in a very tricky situation, and is a wonderfully devious way to keep our minds ticking over well past the end credits, whereas the theatrical ending allows us a certain degree of safety, with not much left to ponder once it's all over. Glenn Close anguished over the prospect of having to reshoot the ending for weeks, suggesting that Alex would umquestionably, self-destructively kill herself, a view which was shared by the psychologists who had corroborated on the film. The psychological plausibility of this ending, combined with its shocking impact, makes for a more memorable, tragic and realistic close.
