10 'Alternative' Christmas Films That Still Employ Classic Festive Themes

4. James Bond's Christmas Adventure: On Her Majesty's Secret Service

What better setting for a love story then at Christmas? And George Lazenby's one and only entry in the Bond franchise has both. It might be the marmite of Bond films (this is one of my favourites) but there's no denying that it has something fantastic moments. Awesome ski chases. The final assault on Blodfeld's ski-resort-type base. An ingenious master plan (the spread of a deadly virus worldwide under the 'cover' of his role curing allergies) and the most tragic moment in Bond's 50+ years; the death of his wife Tracy. But before we get to that sad moment, there's plenty of that 'alternative action and festivities' to be had. From the snowy caps of the alps (that always looks festive) to the car /drag car chase sequence, where Tracy rescues Bond from Blodfeld's henchmen in the Christmas festival at the village of Muren. Not only is the lounge in Blodfeld's mountain-top lair decorated in Christmas trees, but the virus he gives to each of his girls to spread is sneakily designed as Christmas presents. Not the sort of thing you want to wake up to on Christmas morning. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is certainly one of the most stunning Bond films in the franchise and Christmas setting is the perfect place for Bond to find his one true love. (Diana Rigg is equally one of the best Bond girls committed to screen). It's just a tragedy that after their snow-swept romance, it all ends of their wedding day...
