10 Amazing 2014 Performances That Changed Your Mind About Actors You Hate
7. Robert Pattinson - Maps To The Stars
Robert Pattinson has had to endure something akin to what Zac Efron went through post-High School Musical. Since sending tween girls swooning as Edward Cullen in the Twilight series, Pattinson has done everything in his power to try and shed his heart-throb image. Unlike Efron, Pattinson has decided to eschew comedy in favour of complex drama, taking a couple of difficult roles in David Cronenberg films. Working with Cronenberg, a man who specialises in films about body horror and other strange business, was definitely a smart choice by Pattinson if he wanted to change his status. Although 2012's Cosmopolis (in which Pattinson plays a soulless billionaire who has vacuous sex with strangers in the back of his limo) was a confused mess, Maps To The Stars was better and featured Pattinson in a small but meaty roll. If you were turned off by the melodrama of Pattinson's twilight showings, stick on Maps To The Stars and see him underplay his character to perfection. Pattinson is already winning over critics and gaining new, different fans with his recent forays into the weird and bigger things could be on his horizon.
