10 Amazing 21st-Century Movie Villains Who Aren’t Spoken About Enough

9. Ray Marcus – Nocturnal Animals

The fact that Aaron Taylor-Johnson studied renowned serial killers Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy should tell you all you need to know about this particular individual, and the dark places the actor had to reside in to incorporate such raw evil into his performance. The actor’s soft-spoken English accent is completely unidentifiable within a truly unrecognisable performance as he channels his inner psychopath.

With that in mind, many would be forgiven for having to take a second look to see if it’s actually Taylor-Johnson underneath Marcus’ overgrown, greasy hair and behind his crazed, bloodshot eyes. Ray is a rabid animal out for blood who makes you squirm in your seat the longer he occupies the screen. It’s easy to see how Aaron garnered a Golden Globe for his efforts as it’s a role he doesn’t half knock out of the park. Albeit the antagonist of the story being told within the overarching narrative, Ray Marcus’ memorability remains unaffected.

He's an unhinged individual who demonstrates no shred of guilt or remorse for what he has done and for whom he has hurt like many real-life serial killers. His heinous crimes are often accompanied by his hideous laugh and Ray Marcus is a character who is guaranteed to make your skin crawl with every wry and wretched smile he parades.
