10 Amazing Actors Yet To Realise Their True Potential

2. Paul Giamatti

Like Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti's best performance of 2015 came in Love & Mercy - the two don't share any screen time, since Giamatti plays Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson's "crazy psychotherapist" Dr. Eugene Landy at a later stage of Wilson's life (where John Cusack takes over the role of Wilson). Along with his performance as N.W.A's manager Jerry Heller in Straight Outta Compton, if nothing else we learned that Giamatti and the music industry are not a good match. While San Andreas proved that Giamatti has to pay the bills just like anyone else, it was a phoned-in performance in an otherwise consistently solid filmography which kicked off with his sleazy turn in the Howard Stern biopic Private Parts and continued with awards-worthy appearances in American Splendor, Alexander Payne's Sideways and a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Cinderella Man. His upcoming performance as Chairman Dek in the video game adaptation of Ratchet And Clank is unlikely to win him any more awards, but that certainly doesn't mean it won't be a lot of fun to watch. A role in next year's sci-fi indie film Morgan promises more substance along the lines of Ex Machina, as a corporate risk consultant travels to a remote research lab to determine whether or not to terminate an at-risk artificial being.

Andrew Dilks hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
