Puppetmaster, the first installment of the flagship franchise from that venerated king of direct-to-video schlock, Full Moon Pictures, is not that great. Or even all that good, if I'm being honest. The franchise wouldn't see its stride until the sequels, and even those were seriously hit or miss sometimes.

But watching the first film does help you quickly figure out why this became such a long-running movie series. Beyond how cheap its central gimmick is to bring to life, the puppets offer a wide variety of cool ways to dispatch worthless squishy human victims.

The best of which belongs to one poor sucker who, while tied to the bed for some quality time with a quickly dispatched woman, gets instead some nice alone time with the sole female member of the puppets - Leech Woman. No prizes for guessing what her whole thing is.

The poor guy can only watch as Leech Woman crawls slowly on top of his tied down body, taking her time with prey she knows can't run. And then she sucks him dry until he dies of blood loss. Brutal.
