10 Amazing Futuristic Technologies Utterly Wasted In Their Own Movies

1. The Prestige €“ The Matter Duplicator

Prestige MachineThe Technology Nikolai Tesla €“ played by David Bowie in a perfect storm of awesome €“ agrees to help a stumped Hugh Jackman€™s magician find a way to pull off Christian Bale€™s vanishing man trick by attempting to invent teleportation. After numerous failed attempts to bring back the teleported objects, Tesla, Jackman and Tesla€™s assistant Andy Serkis realise that they haven€™t invented a teleporter, they€™ve invented a duplicator. Tesla is then shut down by electrical magnate Thomas Edison and leaves it to Serkis, who refuses to destroy it. Jackman then uses it to duplicate himself as part of a magic trick, before drowning his copy over and over again. What They Should Have Done With It For some reason, the entire film forgets that Tesla€™s machine can duplicate absolutely anything, and instead chooses to focus on just duplicating hats, cats and Hugh Jackman. This looks especially absurd when you realise that Tesla has been driven out of business, despite the fact that he can clone anything €“ even if dollars can be recognise by the bill number, he could literally make himself pyramid of gold just by shoving some bars into the machine and have Serkis stand out back with a giant swag bag. You might raise the question of where the hell Tesla might get the money €“ well, I€™m pretty sure anybody would be willing to lend him some gold under the pretence that he can pay it back with interest. This isn€™t even speculation €“ he can totally do this. Even if Edison conducted a nation-wide smear campaign against him, he could easily wander down into the town €“ where the people love him because he gives them free electricity €“ and ask for some valuables to clone. If he did this, he could afford to work out the unnatural kinks in his machine and give Jackman a teleporter before he drowns a whole army of clones. Agree or disagree? Know of any more?
