10 Amazing Horror Movies With Soul Destroying Endings

4. The Battery

Horror fans have been inundated with zombie movies - both low budget efforts and blockbusters - but The Battery managed to make a name for itself when it dropped in 2012.

It's a micro-budget horror about two former baseball players, Ben and Mickey, who are surviving together during the midst of a zombie apocalypse.

There isn't much in the way of action set-pieces or explosive moments of gore. Instead the terror comes from the claustrophobia of the pair's situation and the encroaching inevitability that they're not long for this world.

This is summed up in the extended climax, where the pair are trapped in a car surrounded by the undead. With Ben too injured to make an escape and the keys outside, they're essentially at a stalemate: the zombies can't get in, but they can't get out.

After a bunch of days, a desperate Mickey makes a break for the keys, but is bitten on the way back to the car.

With nothing else to do, Ben shoots his friend, before attempting his own escape, limping away with a horde following him and one bullet left to use on himself.
