10 Amazing Improvised Movie Moments

8. Dr. Strangelove - "Mein Fuhrer, I Can Walk!"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww7WlSPi9gc Dr. Strangelove allows for one of Stanley Kubrick's brief moments where he wasn't a strict task-master about how his scenes played out; he notoriously made Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman perform one scene over 100 times in order to get the take right on Eyes Wide Shut, and seems to mostly abhor breaking from the script (though about 50% of Gunnery Sgt. Hartman's diatribe in Full Metal Jacket was ad-libbed). Nevertheless, Peter Sellers, who was already juggling a heavy task playing countless characters in Kubrick's stellar black comedy, decides to see if he can impress the director with an improvisation in the film's final scene. Sellers' disabled weapons expert stands up from his wheelchair and declares, "Mein Fuhrer, I can walk!", a bizarre and hilarious addition which makes the final scene all that more memorable and brilliant. Genius that he is, Kubrick saw sense and sought to include it.
