10 Amazing Movies That Bombed At The Box Office
5. Dredd
Budget: $30-45 million
Box Office: $41.5 million
Karl Urban managed to give an incredibly intimidating performance without the use of his eyes at all. That in itself deserves recognition. Stylistically, Dredd is completely unique. The slow motion scenes were crafted so they would replicate the effect of hallucinogenic drugs, and they work as scenes of genuine beauty. This is contrasted with bursts of extreme violence, sticking very close to Dredd's source material.
Fans and critics alike did not take a particular liking to the 1995 adaptation of Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone. They got the most basic thing wrong. He took off his helmet …. You had one job. The 2012 incarnation is much more faithful to the source material, and with a dedicated fan base this movie should have been a hit.
Dredd is extremely violent with moments of genuine levity and comedy, albeit in a dark context. This could have been both the perfect introduction to new fans of the character, as well as a satisfying adaptation for fans of the source material.
Unfortunately, this just wasn't the case.
