10 Amazing Teen Movies You Might Have Missed
1. Idle Hands
Idle Hands is a superbly fun stoner comedy horror with great practical effects, which spoofs a number of genre tropes and classic horror movies, most obviously The Evil Dead Part 2. It stars Devon Sawa as Anton, a teenage layabout who is so lazy and perpetually stoned that he falls victim to the “the devil makes work for idle hands” idiom.
His right hand becomes possessed and forces him to murder his parents before it wreaks a path of comic destruction and murder throughout the film, whilst Anton tries to put a stop to it.
Seth Green and Elden Henson co-star as Anton’s best friends Mick and Pnub who return from the dead after being unwittingly murdered by Anton. They both offer great comic relief as stereotypical lazy stoners (their excuse for returning from the dead is that Hell was just too far). Jessica Alba plays Anton’s neighbour and love interest and Vivica A. Fox is excellent as a demon hunter following cases such as Anton’s, and she gets some of the best lines in the movie.
Overall, Idle Hands is a fun horror comedy that captures something of the turn of the millennium counterculture, it has a great soundtrack with offerings from Rob Zombie, Blink-182 and The Vandals as well as a memorable appearance from The Offspring at the school Halloween dance when we are treat to the site of Dexter Holland being scalped by Anton’s possessed hand.
