One of the more recent cullings from Fincher's proposed film projects would've seen him re-teaming with The Social Network screenwriter to tell the story of another legendary figure in geek culture. A biopic about Apple co-founder Steve Jobs has been floating throughout the studio system for yonks, with Ashton Kutcher already getting there with his own middling portrayal of the Zen Silicon Valley pioneer with last year's Jobs. Sorkin and Fincher missed out on the name but not the star, as they intended for Christian Bale to take the title role of their competing picture, with the writer working from Walter Isaacson's biography. David Fincher, it seemed, had had his fill of the unique politics and dramas of the tech industry, and dropped out of the project fairly early on. The combination of Fincher, Sorkin and Bale all together was a pretty incredible dream team, and it's a shame they couldn't make it work. Still, just two of those would still be pretty impressive, right? Especially when you consider Danny Boyle was thinking of replacing Fincher in the director's chair. Except just this week the news broke that Sony had dropped the picture, and Bale was out. Apparently it might find new life with Universal, and Michael Fassbender in the lead role, but Fincher's definitely distanced himself from it.
