One of the more publicised failed Steven Spielberg projects of recent years was this adaptation of Daniel H Wilson's novel, about a global human war against a robot uprising occurring in the near future. Wilson himself is a robotic engineer so it's possible the "realistic" take on a sci-fi action movie appealed to Spielberg in the same way Interstellar did, and Robopocalypse got the closest to being made out of any of his eventually abandoned projects. It had a cast list, a release date and everything. So what went wrong? Robopocalypse was due to be released on April 25th of this year, with Anne Hathaway and Chris Hemsworth in the starring roles, from a script by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, The Cabin In The Woods). Except, in January 2013, Spielberg postponed production indefinitely, just when it was about to start. Nobody really knows why Robopocalypse was canned - especially when it seemed like a sure-fire hit, with the director returning to the big budget apocalyptic action of War Of The Worlds - but it's a shame nonetheless.
