10 Animated Movies That Disney Should Adapt Into Live-Action

A key reason that Hercules should be adapted into live action is that there hasn't been a really good swords-and-sandals epic in years, and like the 1997 animation can be injected with music and humour. That would be an odd hybrid, and certainly one of the more interesting Disney properties to be thrust back into the spotlight.

It's a very witty, sharp film and an out-and-out comedy balanced with spectacle would be a really unique twist on a genre that hasn't been done justice for years, despite being back in fashion. From Troy to 300, and from Clash of the Titans to, well, 2014's Hercules, the efforts have been middling- most recently the flop of Ben-Hur has proved audiences are getting tired of the same sort of classical antiquity-set epic.

One casting suggestion would be to bring back James Woods as Hades, one of the great american character actors, and one of the few instances where using the voice actor in live-action would work just as well. His villain is one of the most iconic Disney has produced in the last 20 years, and it would be fascinating to see an actor who portrayed a character in voice only return to the role but this time with the added physical element.

Come to think of it, Danny DeVito should return as Philoctetes. Both he and Woods just seem to be extensions of their animated counterparts. And to see DeVito in such a role following his excellent career change as Frank Reynolds in It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia would be hilarious.
