10 Animated Movies That Should Have Won The Oscar For Best Animation (But Didn't Because The Award Didn't Exist Yet)

Toy Story 2 had a difficult production which saw Disney want to release it straight to home media. Whatever the issues were during that time, they were sorted out by John Lasseter and the second instalment of now the most critically acclaimed franchise of all time came to be.

Is it better than the first film? That comes down to a matter of opinion. Is it a phenomenal movie and worthy of its 100% on Rotten Tomatoes? Yes, it is.

Number 2 had Woody, Buzz and co. return just four years after the first and dealt with what is most tragic about childhood - namely, that it comes to an end. Stinky Pete's warning that Andy will grow up and the toys will be cast aside one day would come to pass, though not until a decade later.

The additions of Bullseye and Stinky Pete are great in the run of the film, but it's Jesse and her song 'When She Loved Me' that will cut the deepest emotionally.

For those that saw Toy Story 2 as children, it was a fact of what was to come in the years ahead. For those that were grown when they did see it, it was a moment of heartbreaking forgotten truth, that we all have to grow up one day.

Toy Story 2 was the only one of the Toy Story films to not earn an Oscar, though it was nominated for Best Original Song. The category of Best Animated Feature would come along just two years later and both sequels to this movie would go on to win, but you can bet this would have taken home gold had the award existed at the time.
