Disney

Speaking of Disney's golden age in the 1990s, few films from that era are mentioned more in general conversation or quoted as abundantly as Aladdin.

The re-telling of an old folk tale, Aladdin has everything Disney came to represent. A feisty Princess, a loveable yet poor protagonist, an evil advisor (later sorcerer & genie), a flying carpet, a parrot with a large vocabulary and a semi-understandable monkey. Okay, so the last couple may not be as popular in other Disney films but they are there.

Then, it gave us what we never knew we wanted until we had it.. a Genie. A Genie that gave us who saw it as children perhaps the greatest animated friend ever.

Voiced and made entirely loveable by the equally loveable Robin Williams, he changed the game for animated voice actors, since before him big movie stars weren't known for lending their voices to animated productions. After he came along, it has become something of a trend for huge actors to give their vocal talents to the latest big studio animation.

Aladdin has remained a favourite of just about all who watch it and is a staple of why an animated movie can have such an effect on us all.

The film was awarded two Academy Awards for Best Original Song (A Whole New World) and Best Original Score. Robin Williams was given a Special Achievement Award at the Golden Globes for his groundbreaking work.
