10 Announced Movie Sequels NOBODY Expected

9. Gladiator III

Lord Of War
Paramount

Gladiator II may be only just hitting cinemas to broadly positive reviews, but in the lead up to the epic sequel's release, director Ridley Scott was already busily talking up an in-development threequel, because why the hell not?

Back in September, Scott confirmed that Gladiator III was already in the works, and recently told Total Film that he even had eight pages of the script written, calling it "the beginning of a very good footprint."

Even though Scott turns 87 years old this month, the filmmaker's industrious work ethic is undeniable, as well as his tendency to get projects greenlit, shot, and released in a speedy timeframe. And so, while he's next set to tackle a biopic of pop group The Bee Gees, it sounds like he's keen to get Gladiator III before cameras thereafter.

Considering that Scott has directed eight movies over the last decade, don't be shocked if Gladiator III is released in just a short few years - assuming the second film delivers the expected results at the box office, of course.
