10 Announced Movie Sequels NOBODY Expected
5. Spaceballs 2
Mel Brooks' unforgettable sci-fi parody Spaceballs even included a gag about a possible sequel entitled Spaceballs II: The Search For More Money, but as the decades passed following its 1987 release and Brooks' filmmaking career began to take a back seat, most fans seemed to give up hope.
But this past June, Spaceballs 2 was formally confirmed to be in development, with Josh Gad set to star and produce alongside a currently 98-year-old Brooks, while Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) will handle directing duties.
Naturally, there's plenty of skepticism about a four-decades-later Spaceballs sequel, especially given the likelihood that Brooks' involvement will be minimal at best and the most recent sequel to one of his beloved comedies - TV series History of the World, Part II - wasn't great, to be kind.
This is absolutely a film that should've happened in the late '90s at the latest, but the fact that it's actually going to happen at all is nothing short of astonishing.
