10 Annoying Movie Tropes You Can't Un-See

7. The Wounded Last As Long As The Plot Needs Them To

The hero/love interest/special uncle/president is wounded and time is running out, but their lifespan always seems to be exactly the right amount of time for the plot to run its course.

Whether this means stopping the bad guy, getting to the OFF switch in time or sticking around just long enough not to die, their mortal injury will grit its teeth and summon the resolve and courage to see them through until that perfect moment.

This trope crops up everywhere, from romance to thrillers to schlocky genre films and even high-minded drama. If someone is bleeding out, you can bet your bottom dollar they'll survive long enough to pass on their final words, or, better yet, make it to the hospital.

On the flip side, if the hero needs the drive to seek vengeance, or the film needs one last knife driven to up the emotional ante, you know they're going to die immediately.
