10 Annoying Things Movie Trailers Do Every Time

1. Spoil the Story

http://youtu.be/7xYyCCjLpZs If you've seen the trailer for Tyrannosaur, you've practically seen the film. Likewise What Lies Beneath. The duty of a trailer is to tease, not tell-all. Blame the rise of the spoiler, but the trailer now has the dilemma of keeping its mystique and maybe turning a few heads, or pre-emptively exposing the whole story before internet hearsay can have its turn. A marketer's enemy is now its most valuable tool. Or perhaps these films don't consider their 'twists' to be that revelatory? For instance, whether you regarded The Cabin in the Woods as a conventional or meta-horror may have depended solely on your choosing to watch its trailer first. Of course, we expect a trailer to give us a plot outline, just not a plot twist. Either way, the example above is nothing but self-destructive. Now, don't you want to watch Fincher's again?
