10 Anti-Ku Klux Klan Films

8. Cross of Fire (1989)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsfHjEgtjzA Cross of Fire was a 1989 television miniseries based on the horrific rape and murder of Madge Oberholtzer (Mel Harris) by D C Stephenson (John Heard) a highly successful leader of the Indiana chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. This was at a time - the 1920s - when the KKK were very successful and had millions of members. Stephenson was a total psychopath but he could charm the knickers off a nun and he was very talented. Stephenson's ego grew out of control and he thought he could do whatever he wanted but he didn't reckon on the law catching up with him. He thought he was invincible. The court scenes make this mini series sag a bit and some of it is a bit cliched and preposterous. However, it is an interesting coda to American history.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
