10 Awesome 2018 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck

10. Game Night

Why It Should've Sucked: Despite the movie boasting a top-notch ensemble cast, the marketing for Game Night failed to sell it as anything more than a typical, generic studio comedy that would likely waste all those talented actors.

The mediocre trailers focused on the movie's broadest gags in order to appeal to the lowest common denominator and ensure a strong box office, and in doing so totally misrepresented what Game Night actually was.

Why It Was Awesome: This was a far smarter comedy than anyone could've expected from its marketing, that early-year release date or the directors of 2015's terrible Vacation reboot.

Making the most of its demented high concept while giving Rachel McAdams and Jesse Plemons the floor to steal the show, Game Night served up a deliciously twisty send-up of both genre tropes and middle-class folly.

What's more, with its surprisingly slick direction and awesome Cliff Martinez score, it's probably the most stylish studio comedy in years.
