Why It Should've Sucked: Much like Game Night, Blockers looked like a pretty lame studio comedy on the basis of its trailers, which focused on gross-out gags while downplaying the movie's distinctly feminist bent.

Basically, this had the makings of a glorified 37% on the Tomatometer.

Why It Was Awesome: Far more than just a "woke American Pie", Blockers turned out a genuinely hilarious and surprisingly poignant sex comedy, elevated significantly by fantastic work from the ensemble cast (especially John Cena and Ike Barinholtz).

With a snappy pace, a diverse stream of jokes both gross and clever and some sharp observations on what it means to be a teenage girl in 2018, Blockers is just the sex comedy the world needs right now.
