10 Awesome 2021 Films That Didn't Deserve To Flop

8. Ron's Gone Wrong

The Last Duel
Disney

One of the year's more puzzling box office misfires is Disney's animated film Ron's Gone Wrong, which despite touting a cute premise and gorgeous animation - and, you know, actually being a good movie - was basically sent out to die by the House of Mouse.

Animated films are admittedly another genre that's struggled to thrive at present, in large part due to the lack of vaccine availability for children, such that studios have opted to release many of their biggest animations on streaming services instead.

Possibly because Disney inherited the film from Fox - and contracts most likely prevented them from releasing it direct to Disney+ - they effectively put it in cinemas with only a scant, minimal marketing campaign.

As a result audience awareness was extremely low, and with a lack of major A-list voice actors to boot, it's not at all surprising that Ron's Gone Wrong has grossed just $58.4 million globally to date.

It's a depressing fate for one of the most surprisingly great animated films of the year, albeit one that most are sure to discover on Disney+ instead.
