10 Awesome Actors Who Just Dropped Off The Face Of The Earth

6. Sean Connery

It's hard not to miss an awesome actor like Sean Connery. The nostalgia can come often when a new James Bond graces the screen and we fondly remember the original or when Harrison Ford talks about a new Indiana Jones movie and we hope and pray they're smart enough to convince Connery to come back. The man is a legend when it comes to film. His Scottish accent, brutish good looks and macho demeanor made him much more than a leading man. He was and still is an icon. It would be fantastic to see an actor like Connery back in the saddle, but he's another performer that takes his retirement quite seriously. Connery's last big Hollywood role was the lead in The League of Extraordinary Gentelman. The lowbrow nature of that feature probably spawned from the quarreling relationship between Connery and director Stephen Norrington. The bad experience was reportedly part of the reason for Connery's retirement from acting which he officially announced in 2006 after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. Since then, the Scottish James Bond just keeps on turning down roles and denying a comeback in Hollywood. He turned down the role of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings franchise, refused to appear in the latest Indiana Jones and has stated he won't return to Hollywood because of the "idiots now making films in Hollywood." This doesn't mean the actor is bitter and bored. He makes plenty of public appearances at sports events and says "retirement is just too damned much fun." He's dabbled in acting here and there since his retirement as well. He reprised his roles as James Bond by voicing the character in the video game From Russia With Love. He also voiced the lead role in the animated movie Sir Billi the Vet as well as the animated short the film is based on. Considering how satisfied the man is at 83 in his retirement it's not likely we will ever see him grace the screen again in a big film, but nevertheless we will always have great roles of machismo like The Rock and Dr. No to satisfy our Connery needs.
