10 Awesome Comic Book Movie Moments When Characters Received Power-Ups

9. Jean Grey/Phoenix

X-Men 3: The Last Stand may have been an excruciatingly painful film to endure, but the revived Jean Grey had become immensely powerful in her rebirth; she went from lifting medical supplies with her mind and stabilising a windswept wolverine, to tearing Professor Xavier apart, as well as practically destroying Alcatraz. This boost was explained through a semi-schizophrenic mental barrier implanted by Professor Xavier, but the explosion in power made her the greatest foe the X-Men had faced (and possibly the only foe that may rival the potential power of Apocalypse in the upcoming X-Men film.) Days of Future Past has now eradicated this timeline, but it is undeniable that the boost to Jean Grey made the character infinitely more interesting; in the first two films she was mediocre, aside from the conflict she causes between Cyclops and Wolverine, but in the third film she became her own character. This depth made the boost not only engaging in terms of the storyline, but it made the character important when she had been otherwise sidelined. The Phoenix Saga was incredible in the comics, and even the animated series did justice to the story. The movie may have butchered this sacred plot, but the monumental overhaul of the character from being a hero to being the primary nemesis of the film is one which cannot be ignored.
