1. Scott Pilgrim vs The World
Budget: $60,000,000 Worldwide Box Office: $47,664,559
Scott Pilgrim vs The World was a 2010 film based on the series of graphic novels by Brian Lee OMalley and was directed by Edgar Wright, previously known for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and the brilliant TV series Spaced. The plot features Scott Pilgrim, a bassist for the wonderfully titled Sex Bob-Omb, who falls in love with a delivery girl named Ramona Flowers. Unfortunately many others have also fallen for Ramonas charms in the past leaving Scott to battle her 7 evil exs, leading to a climatic battle involving Gideon, played by Jason Schwartzman. The most impressive aspect of the film is its truly stunning visual design, merging traits normally associated with comic books and placing them against live action. It is beautifully done and Edgar Wright should be applauded for attempting this ambitious aesthetic, rather than be conservative. And with the film featuring both a fantastic soundtrack, featuring tracks from artists such as Beck, Metric and Plumtree and also a dynamic score from legendary producer Nigel Godrich, everything seemed set to make Scott Pilgrim a major hit. Unfortunately, Scott Pilgrim just didnt capture the curiosity of the audience and it was left to devoted fans to actually see the film in theatres. Despite a substantial advertisement push it seemed to fall into a very niche category and therefore unattractive to the regular movie goer. It really is a shame as the style of the film was definitely enhanced by the larger screen and sharper sound and one that people of all ages could have enjoyed. Thankfully the film has developed a far bigger following through DVD/Blu-Ray sales and looks set to become a cult classic.
