10 Awesome Horror Movie Villains (With Surprisingly Low Kill Counts)

7. Regan MacNeil (The Exorcist)

Babadook Book
Warner Bros.

To make things clear, it is not actually Regan who is the one responsible here, rather it is the demon possessing her body. The classic 1970s horror film follows the story of two priests, who attempt to exorcise a young girl free of a demon. The possessed Regan herself is one of the icons synonymous with the horror genre, with her croaky voice and wicked smile.

The waters are a little murky on how many deaths 'Regan' is responsible for, if any at all. One of the senior priests attempting to exorcise the young girl Father Merrin, suffers a heart attack during the procedure and dies.

Later, when the demon leaves Regan's body and enters that of Father Karrass, who then throws himself out of the window in self-sacrifice to protect Regan and rid her of the demon. So in a way, the demon is indirectly responsible for two deaths, which is definitely a low number.

When first released, the film terrorised audiences by shaking their faith particularly, garnering the film an impressive reputation as one of the scariest ever made.
