10 Awesome Horror Villains Trapped In TERRIBLE Movies
1. Ahmanet - The Mummy (2017)
Even accepting that few were asking for a reboot of The Mummy, the 2017 movie's most inspired idea was casting Sofia Boutella as the titular villain, Ahmanet.
Beyond the intrigue of gender-flipping an antagonist who has been predominantly male in prior Mummy movies, Boutella's piercing gaze and snake-like athleticism - being a trained dancer and all - made her a note-perfect fit for a new take on the iconic horror villain.
It's enormously frustrating, however, that she's left trapped in such a dreadfully cynical, lifeless, personality-devoid husk of a blockbuster.
As scary-sexy as Boutella's performance is, the script gives her precious little to work with, evidently being more interested in setting up a universe of interconnected Universal monster movies - a universe which, hilariously, was cancelled in light of this film's commercial underperformance.
But Ahmanet deserved a sharper script and more skilled director to make the most of Boutella's considerable screen presence. Instead, she's basically the only memorable part of one of the decade's most soulless tentpole duds.
