10 Awesome Innovations That Changed Cinema Forever

1. Web-Based Distribution

Sure, you can submit it to independent film festivals, but that's a long shot at best, and so the easiest way seems to be the superb invention of sites like YouTube, where budding filmmakers can upload shorts and even full features in 1080 HD for the world to see. Sure, it's not going to make you rich, but it could just be the leg-up you need for Hollywood to come a-knocking. All it takes is Steven Spielberg to see the link if it goes viral, and your career could be made. Even for non-indie filmmakers, the advent of Video On Demand has created an entirely new revenue stream; studios don't need to bother with the immense costs involved in distributing a film, and can instead propagate it online for a minimal fee. A lot of films in the US now are even available through VOD before they are in cinemas; that's how successful a model it is. My only wish is that VOD would be a more worldwide enterprise, and as it continues to show growth, that will surely come to fruition. Which innovation do you think is the most important?
