3. 3D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRdxXPV9GNQ Yes, we all hate how much 3D has been shoved down our throats in recent years, but against the predictions of many, it's a cinematic medium that seems to have staying power, having come to prominence in 2009 with My Bloody Valentine 3D, and then being a staple of weekly cinema releases every since. The problem is that for every wonderful IMAX 3D experience like Avatar, there's half a dozen films where it's been added on in post-production - with the film being shot in native 2D and then hurriedly converted into flat 3D - and others where the depth simply isn't there. By now we're all fed up of these gimmicky 3D flicks that just hurl objects into our faces, and the key these days seems to be to greater immerse the audience in what's going on. Still, the issue persists that filmmakers forget that 3D glasses darken the screen by an extra 30%, yet often fail to compensate for this in scenes of low light. Also, is anyone really viewing it as the future of cinema? It's a fun gimmick on occasion, and though it sadly isn't going anywhere, it's not something that causes me to go see any film.
