1. Galaxy Quest
Another cult classic is the brilliant science-fiction parody Galaxy Quest, which satirises Star Trek: The Original Series and much of the fandom associated with it. Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, and Daryl Mitchell play the cast of a failed TV series called Galaxy Quest, who are approached by a race of aliens who, believing the show to have been a documentary, have modeled their world on its rules and tenets. Once the aliens abduct the gang, they all have to assume their former roles, as the aliens believe that they will be able to assist in them defeating another feared alien race. It's totally absurd, and there's something truly pithy about people being mistaken for their own fictional characters, making this one of the best mistaken identity flicks not only of the 90s, but of all time.
