8. The Raid: Redemption (2011)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI2f41MjAiY Released only two years ago, The Raid: Redemption has been rightfully acclaimed as 'the best action movie in decades'. Indeed, in the 'one against all' action genre, this British/Indonesian action thriller has a lot to offer to the fans. Beautifully shot, atmospherically tense and with breathtaking violence, the film displays a great number of fights that are as imaginative and brutal as they can get - Ong Bak filmed by John Carpenter, in a Die Hard setting. Here, the combat styles count less than their efficiency and the difference between killing and getting killed is all in the reflexes. One of the most outrageous fight scenes happens towards the end of the movie, when the two good guys team up against the evil henchman. This is assuredly one of the most impressive brawls to ever hit the screen. Everyone keep getting at each other like mad dogs - which is coincidentally the bad guy's name. During an extended fight (I mean, you could go for a snack and come back later and they would still be wrestling), they savagely punch and kick each other hard and throw each other on the floor and against the walls. At one moment, Mad Dog gets stabbed in the neck with a neon light tube - some bright idea! But it's not over yet and the man won't go down. The two heroes still struggle for a while before he falls to the floor. One of them then twists the bulb in Mad Dog's throat while the other one kicks him in the stomach. And as the villain draws his last breath, we can get our breath back at last.
