8. The Driver - Drive

Hes a murderer, sure, but what movie character isnt these days? What someone really needs to call The Driver up on is his confused blurring of reality and fiction. As director Nicolas Winding Refn puts it, hes a guy thats seen too many movies. Its the reason he recites monologues to his employers or offs people in theatrical ways, and why he acts as such a staunch and gallant protector of his love interest. Hes convinced hes the star of his own picture. Before he figures out the truth, hes left a heap of bodies in his wake, a price he has to pay for being so completely out to lunch. The Driver shares this disorder with
Breathless Michel, a gangster who murders a cop and spends the entire film doing an annoying thing with his lips just because he thinks its what Humphrey Bogart would do.
