10 Awesome Movie Characters That Were Probably Mentally Ill

7. Tom Reagan - Miller's Crossing

Miller€™s Crossing is a damn cool film. Gabriel Byrne€™s Tom Reagan is damn cool in it; smart, snappy insults drip off his tongue, he€™s a hit with the ladies and he takes beatings like a champ. But - his admirable intelligence and resolve aside - Tom Reagan is not really a well man. He€™s unfeeling, snide and duplicitous by nature, playing friends off against each other until they all kill each other dead and he even ends the film by killing a friend just because they ticked him off. That alone would bring on a psych evaluation, but Tom also happens to be one of many noir characters who seem perpetually in a state of depression. If Reagan, Sam Spade and co. were any more grim or self-deprecating, they€™d be placed on suicide watch.
