10 Awesome Movie Moments Where You Think The Villain Might Actually Win

7. The Sad "Ending" - Wayne's World

Law Abiding Citizen Gerard Butler
Paramount Pictures

A slightly more light-hearted entry now, as Wayne's World seems to end with Wayne (Mike Myers) being dumped by his girlfriend Cassandra (Tia Carrere) after a major record label rejects her, finding out his demented ex Stacy (Lara Flynn Boyle) is pregnant, and watching his house burn down, while Cassandra ends up with sleazy TV producer Benjamin (Rob Lowe).

But at that moment, Wayne and Garth (Dana Carvey) break the fourth wall to address the audience, explaining that they'd never end the movie like this, instead giving the ending a "mega happy" do-over where everyone, even Benjamin, emerges satisfied.

What makes this rug-pull so hilarious is that the dark "original" ending is probably the most realistic outcome of the movie's events - save for that fire, perhaps - to the extent that when Benjamin asks the audience, "You didn't really think she'd end up with Wayne, did you?", it feels like a totally reasonable comment.

Though it certainly would've been a bold dose of "realism" counter to what audiences expect from most coming-of-age comedies, it really wouldn't have fit the movie's tone at all, so the alternate happy ending was probably for the best.
