10 AWESOME Movie Trailers (Then The Film Sucked)
7. Battle: Los Angeles
The Trailer
On the basis of the first trailer for Battle: Los Angeles, you'd be forgiven for assuming a new District 9-esque sci-fi classic was on the way.
The trailer establishes an intriguing alien invasion scenario topped with terrific visual effects and an appealing cast, but the real masterstroke comes at the end.
The final section of the trailer is an incredible montage of chaotic action set to Jóhann Jóhannsson's incredibly moody piece, "The Sun's Gone Dim and the Sky's Turned Black."
It suggested an emotional, powerful sci-fi horror blockbuster and can surely be credited with the film's box office success despite mixed-to-negative reviews.
The Film
Ultimately Battle: Los Angeles lacked the emotional appeal of that trailer, settling instead for a generic sci-fi action flick with impressive visuals but little else to cling to.
The human drama promised by the trailers was thinly sketched and forgettable, and the set-pieces ultimately too derivative of better entries into the genre to sustain much interest.
11 years on, do you remember anything about it, other than how much of a crushing disappointment it was of course?
