9. Inception (2010)
The debate rages on as to whether this film is overhyped (I do feel a little bit that it is), but any movie that stands as the 14th best film of all time on the IMDb as I write this cannot be ignored. Whatever your views of this film might be, you cannot deny that it is wholly original. Christopher Nolan reportedly worked on the script for almost a decade, and it shows; its jammed to the brim with ideas, exploiting the concept of dreams within dreams, where we get ideas from, and doing it all very successfully. Its a very rounded movie; every single aspect feels thought out, and its the sign of a truly well made film when it veers off into the realm of nonsensical, yet you never feel as though the film-makers lost the plot themselves. Theories rage on the internet (the wedding ring one is a clever idea indeed), but this is one you see and make your own mind up on; work of genius, piece of hackery, mediocre thriller, high art or popcorn fodder, too confusing or makes perfect sense, you cant deny that nobody has ever, ever made a film like this before. And amen to that
