10 Awesome Movies Set Over The Course Of A Day

6. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

John Hughes' coming of age classic remains one of the most enduringly popular comedies ever made. A career-defining and endlessly charismatic turn from Matthew Broderick, a rich vein of boundless optimism, quotable dialogue, underlying social commentary and some great comic moments all combine to create what may very well be the definitive teen movie. After faking illness to cut class, Ferris Bueller ropes in his girlfriend and best friend to have one last epic adventure before graduation. Stealing a Ferrari, eating in a fancy restaurant, catching a ball game, visiting Chicago landmarks and crashing a parade are the order of the day, with Ferris' nemesis Rooney in hot pursuit. The movie manages to balance several elements all at once; it is a love letter to the city of Chicago, a light-hearted comedy laced with themes of family relationships and high-school wish fulfillment, all wrapped up in 100 minutes of pure enjoyment. The one day narrative obviously benefits the movie; somehow, Ferris Bueller's Week Off just doesn't sound quite so much fun. It is about as 80's as you can get, from the soundtrack to the dialogue to the costume design, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off the movie is as charming and innocent as its iconic protagonist.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
