3. Bone Tomahawk
Bone Tomahawk sounds like something you'd find at the bottom of a bargain bin in an abandoned Blockbuster video store. But don't be deceived - this is one of the more interesting western movies of recent years, featuring Kurt Russell, Matthew Fox, Patrick Wilson, Richard Jenkins and a bunch of actors whose faces you will no doubt recognise. Billed as a "western horror," Bone Tomahawk is the work of writer/director S. Craig Zahler - the result of a long-time passion project. Watching the movie, you can tell that it's the work of a single mind - one man's vision, brought to the screen on a tiny budget. And it's a western of surprises, unexpected twists and turns, none of which are to be ruined here. Bone Tomahawk was granted a limited release only, which means that it wasn't seen by anywhere near enough people. Given its weird, genre-bending script and outright odd moments, it's almost certainly destined for cult status come time for the Blu-ray release.
