1. Horror - The Cabin In The Woods

Cabininthewoods

Cabin In The Woods was one of the best horror movies to almost never be released. Luckily for us Chris Hemsworth became Thor, and Joss Whedon made a little movie called The Avengers. With the impending success of both of these individuals this shelved classic got a second chance. Cabin In The Wood Woods in a movie that without spoiling anything it is hard to truly describe, but here we go with the most basic of breakdowns; Group of young adults go to a cabin, and shenanigans ensue. The greatest thing about the film is that within the first 5 minutes, you know that nothing is as it seems. Another thing that makes this film such a classic is that it deviates from the standard horror formula. It dissects what we all believe about horror, and adds a refreshing perspective. For example, instead of implying that all the characters were born stupid, they explain why they make stupid decisions. Also instead of just ripping off other franchises it makes little homages. Collectively every year, usually 1 to 2 horror movies really make an impact or are even memorable. Cabin in the Woods will be talked about and dissected for many years to come, and even after you know all of its mysteries and surprises, you need to watch in multiple times to truly experience the film.
