10. Half-Baked
I love a good stoner movie. Half-Baked, the 1998 comedy starring Dave Chappelle, is one of the keystone films in the stoner-movie genre. Chappelle, along with Guillermo Diaz and Jim Breuer, are forced into the working class of pot dealers in order to post bail for their friend Kenny (Harland Williams) who accidentally manslaughtered a diabetic police horse by feeding it popcorn. Mr. Nice Guy, the weed conglomeration the group forms, finds themselves in a time crunch. They must make enough money to save Kenny from prison before he ends up as Nasty Nate's shower plaything. Chappelle and company also find themselves on the wrong end of an angry Sampson Simpson, the local drug kingpin. After an epic ordeal which consists of the ghost of Jerry Garcia knocking someone out with a guitar, America's favorite pothead sells out. His girlfriend, Mary Jane (I wonder if her dad was a big Spider-Man fan) is adamantly opposed to smoking the reefer. And even despite her embarrassingly taking him to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting for marijuana, in the end he opts to forgo his life of looking at dollar bills with John Stewart to spend time with some whiny lady. It's a damn shame.
