10 Awesome Pixar Villains

1. Henry J. Waternoose III - Monsters Inc.

Monsters Inc Waternoose A very similar villain to the likes of Stinky Pete and Lotso, in terms of Waternoose appearing for the majority of the film as a kind and gentle character, as well as being a father-like figure to Sully. The reason, however, why Waternoose is at number 1 on this list compared to Pete or Lotso or any other Pixar villain, is because to this day, I still find Waternoose a rather disturbing villain. When I watch Monsters Inc. and see Waternoose rampaging along the corridors after Mike and Sully, or when he confronts Sully in the scare simulation near the end of the film, and he raises up on his crab-like legs to become a truly daunting and imposing figure, it still creeps me out, and as a man of 21 who is immune to the majority of horror films, that's a mighty achievement for Pixar. The fact that Waternoose is revealed as the mastermind behind all of Randall's evil plans is rather shocking, as not only did I not see it coming when I first watched the film as a young boy, it also demeans Randall's menacing character that has been displayed throughout the entire film, and instead emphasises that it is actually Waternoose who is truly evil, ruthless and amoral. The fact that Waternoose is being so ruthless in his plan of wanting to kidnap children to make sure his entire race of monsters can survive is actually admirable in its own way, and doesn't make him a mindless villain who just wants to cause destruction, like Sid. So, when Waternoose is finally caught and dragged off by the CDA, it does manage to raise a certain level of sympathy and understanding for what he was trying to do. However, I'm not exactly sure why the monster community would care that Waternoose is kidnapping children, especially as monsters believe them to be toxic and dangerous, even more so if their kidnapping meant the continuation of their survival. Nevertheless, his ruthless character certainly makes him the villain of this film, and though it was a shame Waternoose didn't show up in Monsters University, it was a true joy to see him in a picture near the end of the film, sporting quite the fetching afro. So, that was my 10 awesome Pixar villains. Were there any villains not on the list that you think should have been? Who is your number one villain? Feel free to comment below.
