10 Awesome Planned Movie Cameos (That Sadly Never Happened)

2. Marlon Brando - The Godfather Part II

Birdman Captain Jack Johnny Depp
Paramount Pictures

The Godfather remains arguably Marlon Brando’s finest hour, in addition to being the film that rescued his career. The actor didn’t have a great time making the original though since Paramount insisted he audition for the role – despite being one of the greatest actors of his generation – and generally made him feel unwelcome.

When the movie became a hit and Brando won an Oscar they moved quickly to set up a sequel, and initially, Brando agreed to make a cameo during a flashback scene. This sequence also featured James Caan’s Sonny, but at the last moment Brando backed out because he wasn’t happy with the pay being offered (on top of still brooding because of his treatment on the original).

The scene was hastily rewritten to focus on Sonny instead, but you can’t help but feel it would have been more impactful with Don Vito appearing too.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
