10 Awesome Sci-Fi Films That Need To Escape Development Hell

8. Halo

It's been ten years since Bungie officially announced the plan to make a movie version of their incredibly popular first person shooter, Halo. Since then, a number of high profile names have been attached, not least Peter Jackson, who was touted to be the project's executive producer for some time, with District 9 director Neill Blomkamp stepping in behind the camera. The franchise certainly has the scope for a grand-scale, ambitious space opera, with the FPS format lending itself perfectly to an epic science fiction movie laden with action sequences. It even has a pretty decent narrative to work from, too, with an impressive roster of characters to draw upon to compensate for the fact that the in-game protagonist, John-117, doesn't have a face. Not wishing to deprive the movie of revenue, Jackson announced that the violence would be toned down to ensure a PG-13 rating - hardly news which would inspire enthusiasm amongst fans of killtacular awards. After Blomokamp pulled out and more big Hollywood names emerged rumoured to be linked to the project, including Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott, the movie once again floundered on the rocks of development hell, and with Microsoft now seemingly focusing their energies on the Halo TV series, a big screen adaptation isn't likely to appear any time soon.
