1. Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) Princess Mononoke (1997)
The Japanese anime company, Studio Ghibli, has created some of the most magical moments in animation ever, so its hardly surprising that their influence should find its way into live action movies. Last years retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman, featured a scene which caused eagled-eyed fans of Princess Mononoke to verily gasp at in recognition: when Snow White (Kristin Stewart) meets a mystical, spiritual Elk inside Fairy Sanctuary, shortly before it is attacked and killed by the evil henchmen of her stepmother (Charlize Theron). The staging of the scene, from the lighting to the foliage, is hugely reminiscent of a Studio Ghibli sequence in which Princess Mononoke meets a band of Kodama (little forest sprites) and their leader, the Spirit of the Forest, who is, yes, a Stag, and who is also butchered shortly after by the bad guys To give Snow White director Rupert Sanders credit, he has confessed to being a huge fan of Studio Ghibli and has not denied copying this sequence from Princess Mononoke. It is up to viewers to decide if his set-piece is homage, or just a shameless rip-off
