10 Awesome Slasher Films You've Probably Never Seen

1. Detention

It€™s probably advisable to watch this film whilst under some kind of intoxicant, because it€™s a crazy, crazy film that is perfect for stoners. Don€™t let that put you off though if that's not your thing: provided you can keep up with the pace then you€™re in for a good time whatever you€™re doing. Starring a pre-Hunger Games, but still adorable, Josh Hutcherson, and Shanley Caswell, who you may recognise from The Conjuring and Snow White: A Deadly Summer (you probably haven€™t seen that one, but it€™s worth pointing out), Detention begins like any classic slasher. The most popular girl in school gets bumped off (after a truly hilarious opening sequence) by somebody dressed as €œCinderhella€, a fictional serial killer from a popular slasher series within the film. We then see life from the school€™s second biggest loser (the biggest loser is a girl who performed oral sex on the school mascot, a giant stuffed bear), and, as you€™d expect from an American high school, it€™s not pretty. After this fairly standard - but very well done - opening, things start to get a little bit strange in the best way. Someone€™s part-fly (as in, the insect) and there€™s a surprising amount of time travel, which altogether makes for a seriously enjoyable frenetic rollercoaster of a film. If Scream was the postmodern reboot of the slasher genre, then Detention is a post-postmodern masterpiece of self-aware, anything-goes horror-comedy.

Fan of Taylor Swift and the Dead Kennedys (a duet I can only dream of). I like dystopias, slasher films, and video games that make me feel things.
